Students along with environmentalists engaged in coastal cleanup. |
The Scout Association of Belize in conjunction with Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE), on Saturday September 30th 2006, conducted a coastal beach and river ways cleanup along the Punta Gorda Town Coastline and the Big Falls Rio Grande River between the hours of 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.
This coastal beach and river ways cleanup are events implemented on an international and annual basis by The Ocean Conservancy. This is an important step to ensure there are cleaner oceans and waterways year-round.
The Ocean Conservancy will then compile and analyze data collected and be able to identify the activities and general sources causing the debris. They will complete and distribute an annual report to help educate the public, business community, industry, and government officials about marine debris issues.
TIDE is grateful and would like to thank the following groups and institutions who

TIDE’s mission is to promote the sustainable development of the Toledo District by fostering the efficient and effective management of the region's resources, conducting relevant research, and by promoting training and advocacy in order to preserve our natural heritage for present and future generations.
