TIDE Develops Conservation Action Planning for Monitoring and Evaluation

Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) presented its new Strategic Plan

Staff stakeholders and consultants work together on CAP

for the next five years 2007 - 2012, to its stakeholders at the Punta Gorda, Father Ring Parish Hall.  The consultants, Marion Cayetano and Jeremy Enriquez, explained the consulting processes with staff and the Board of Directors how the information was gathered for the completion of the document.

The attendants were given an opportunity at the end, to ask questions as well as make comments and suggestions based on the information presented.

In her closing remarks TIDE’s Executive Director, Celia Mahung thanked the participants for their attendance and constructive contributions.  Celia pledged to continue to working together with stakeholders and the communities as TIDE continues its efforts in environmental conservation in the Toledo District.

TIDE also implemented a Conservation Action Planning (CAP) workshop for its stakeholder communities in June 2007.  This workshop was conducted by consultants from The Nature Conservancy (TNC) using methodology that incorporates community concerns and environmental concerns in the areas of TIDE work, from the Maya Mountains to the Port Honduras Marine Reserve an area referred to as the Maya Mountain Marine Corridor (MMMC).  The CAP process encompasses three key steps of the Conservancy’s Conservation Approach – developing strategies, taking action and measuring success.

The first session was held at the Father Ring Parish Hall in Punta Gorda Town.  During this

session, the participants worked in groups to discuss the target projects and their viability. The second, all day, session was held on at the Novitiate Nazareth Retreat Center in Forest Home village.  There, TIDE’s management team and the other invited stakeholders reviewed the previous day’s activity and did some threat and stress analysis for project targets identified during the first day.

TIDE is grateful to TNC for their continued interest in supporting our programs.  All donations and financial contributions are appreciated as they help to take care of the costs of management of the protected areas.  To find out how to contribute financially to the management of the current and new projects in the protected areas visit our home page and learn hoe to become a member of TIDE.
