Executive Director Presents Belizean Flags to Primary Schools

On Tuesday September 19, 2006 the Executive Director for the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE), Wil Maheia, presented a Belizean Flag, complete with pole, stand and flag etiquette manual to the Infant One Class of two Primary Schools in the Punta Gorda Town.
The flag presentations were part of an initiative of the Vision Inspired by the People Education Unit in collaboration with TIDE as part of Belize’s 25th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
During the flag presentations at the PG Methodist School and the St. Peter Claver R C School, Executive Director, Wil Maheia, explained to the students the importance of being proud Belizeans, encouraged them to fly their flag with dignity, and to preserve their flag which will be presented to their Class Valedictorian during their Standard VI graduation ceremony.
Wil Maheia congratulated the students of the Methodist School for demonstrating their brilliance when he asked them questions surrounding Independence Day.
“On Thursday is Belize birthday!” shouted one of the students as the were all ecstatic to receive their flag.

the need for young children to take pride in their Belizean Symbols. He also mentioned that it would be good if all classes would have a flag to take care of.
Students sang the Belizean National Anthem to show respect to their flag.
