TOLEDO INSTITUTE FOR DEVELOPMENT AN ENVIRONMENT (TIDE)
TENTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
(TIDE AT TEN)
MISS CONSERVATION PAGEANT
23rd November 2007 Click here for more......... |
The pageant is NOT a beauty pageant and is designed to educate the general public but especially our youths on the efforts of conservation in the country. It will also demonstrate that our young ladies are beautiful but also intelligent, which is what we want the public to pay attention to --- their intelligence.
Winners in the pageant will be awarded with partial scholarships to the University of Belize – Toledo Campus to pursue their Associate Degree in 2008.
The pageant includes the following:
- Application to participate in the pageant (deadline for submission of application is 12th October 2007)
- Applicants will attend an interview on 20th October 2007 (dressed appropriately)
- Applicants must have an average passing mark of 75%, must be a fourth year student, and must be serious about continuing their studies.
- Use of school uniform for introduction
- Initiative and creativity in designing a costume that demonstrates something from any one of the Protected Areas in the Country.
- NO bathing suit; there is a substituted activity for this section of the pageant that will showcase the contestants demonstrating other fun activities in life.
- There will be a dress code that will apply as soon as the applicants are selected to participate and even after the pageant for the winner
- Very little make-up or none at all will be required
- Contestants selected after the interview will have to maintain a respectable reputation (dress properly for a young lady, talk properly, be mannerly, think and act environmentally conscious, etc.)
- Contestants can be disqualified for unruly behaviour in public, failure to coorperate and disrespect.
- Contestants will participate in community activities
- Winner of the pageant will have a calendar of activities for one year that will involve presentation on environmental issues to communities, schools or groups. She will also be required to be present at environmental functions hosted by TIDE or other Environmental organizations, if required. Please note that this schedule will be set up so that it does not inconvenience her studies.
We hope that through this pageant our young ladies will learn to show self esteem and value in the way they carry themselves as young ladies and also hope that they would have developed a greater appreciation and love for the environment and its possibilities. Through the Pageant they would have helped to educate hundreds of people in our community including their family, friends and fellow school mates.
We hope that our education institutions share in our efforts and allow students to participate
