TIDE Acknowledges FWC Participants

There is an old saying which goes like this “after every storm is a calm” but that was certainly not the case for the FWC Junior League winners who exhibited a flurry of excitement during the 2008 TIDE Freshwater Cup Awards Ceremony.
The Awards Ceremony and the All Star Game was initially postponed because of the passage of Tropical Storm Arthur which caused extensive damage to crops and infrastructure, the loss of five lives and millions of dollars in damages in southern Belize.
Many communities situated near the TIDE protected areas - Port Honduras Marine Reserve, Private Lands Initiative and Payne’s Creek National Park -

competed again for the fourth consecutive year; the second consecutive for the Junior League, in the Environmental Project Competition which entitles them to compete in a highly competitive grass-roots football competition.
Six junior teams from six primary schools in the Toledo District participated in this year’s FWC. These schools had similar responsibilities to that of the teams in the Senior Freshwater Cup League, that is, each primary school team implemented an Environmental project to entitle them to play in the football competition.

other prizes including coupons for school registration fees for the new academic year and school supplies for first place. All the other teams participating in the Junior FWC, including those not winning the football tournament, or the Environment Project component, were given complementary prizes of school supplies.
