Social Innovation Presentations - Mexico


THE UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC COMMISSION FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN, (ECLAC), in conjunction with Kellogg Foundation organized a tour, which started on August 29th and concluded on September 8th,2011, to disseminate the experiences of social innovative winning projects in the past five cycles of the contest. The TIDE Freshwater Cup was one of the social innovation winner’s in 2008, and was selected to participate in the tour.

The main objective of this tour was to present and share 13 Social Innovative projects including TIDE Fresh Water Cup Environmental program in Toledo. Presentations on the projects focused on the challenges, achievements, experiences and methodologies of these projects to a select audience of officials from state and local governments, NGO representatives, academics, businessmen and community leaders from 5 states in Mexico.
 
Presentations on the winning projects were made at the National Institute for social development in Mexico and Puebla City, as well as in the convention center in City of Oaxaca, Cristobal de las casas, Universities of Merida, and other university campuses throughout Campeche and Quintanaroo. Projects presented included: Programs for management of school conflicts, Rehabilitation of solid waste, Programs in Mobile health Care, Strategies for Maternal Health Care, Prevention of violence and resolution of conflicts, and common answer to family violence. Several countries made presentations during the various cycles of the contest; such countries were: Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Chile, Argentina, Columbia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Haiti, Peru and Brazil.
 
TIDE was very proud to present the Freshwater cup, which is a project that could easily be replicated in other countries, and garner the same success that TIDE was able to achieve. TIDE was also very grateful to learn from the other innovative projects that were presented during the tour and was impressed to see the success of such projects.
