TIDE Weekend 2010

TIDE embarks on its second annual TIDE WEEKEND on October 9 – 11, 2010 in Punta Gorda Town. During the weekend, we will highlight our conservation efforts in southern Belize, celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity and provide an opportunity for stakeholders to make an income and participate in a series of traditional fun activities.

On Saturday, October 9, we will host the Fifth Annual Youth Conservation Competition, where youths compete for Associate Degree Scholarships by making stage presentations on the theme, The Value of Biodiversity’. This competition allows the audience to learn about the work of participating organizations and to appreciate the value of biodiversity.

The Eighth Annual Fish Fest kicks off on Sunday October 10 at the TIDE Compound with an early morning fishing tournament in the Port Honduras Marine Reserve. This year the tournament will promote sustainable fishing of fin fish species and for the first time, Sport Fishing. The day’s events include a series of traditional fun activities such as coconut husking, and cast net throwing. Other activities include kayak and cycle races, a volleyball tournament, etc. and of course the event would be incomplete without a variety of local food and drinks.
 
On Saturday October 9 and on Monday October 11, TIDE Tours will offer day tours at a discounted rate for all to learn more about what Toledo has to offer. Come and experience the natural beauty of the Toledo District!
