About Us

TIDE Mission Statement

To foster community participation in resource management and sustainable use of ecosystems within the Maya Mountain Marine Corridor of southern Belize for the benefit of present and future generations.

 TIDE Vision Statement

TIDE is an effective leader in ecosystems management and biodiversity conservation that fosters community development and empowers communities to sustainably manage and use the natural resources in the Toledo District of Belize.

Leading Community Participation in Conservation

The Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) encompasses an  ecosystem-based management approach through the Maya Mountain Marine Corridor: the Ridge to Reef Resource Protection Plan. The health of the region is connected by water – the rivers, streams, watersheds, and the sea – and includes the natural resources and people of the region. Outcomes are future-based and results-oriented, allowing data to flow as a full circle that informs the community, management plans, and decision making.
