Opportunities

The Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) offers a variety of volunteer and internship opportunities for individuals seeking experience in research, monitoring, and management of protected areas and natural resources.

Volunteers join TIDE from Belize and from around the world. Costs involved vary depending on the program. All volunteers are expected to cover their own travel to/from Belize and in-country, lodging, food, personal expenses and passport/visa (if applicable). Punta Gorda is town of about 6,000 people on the seaside in southern Belize.

For international volunteers, three to six months is an ideal time to work on an existing project and/or to initiate a new project. Some projects come to completion when you leave; others become long-term elements of the program and continue after your departure. You will enjoy a rich opportunity to make a difference.

Please review our website and consider how your skills, education, and experience match the work of TIDE. If you want to work in the marine conservation, you must have scuba diving certification and experience. Most volunteer work requires that you be physically fit and work as part of a team in a dynamic and challenging environment.

TIDE will work with you to determine if there is a good match and discuss potential projects by email before offering you a volunteer position. In order to ensure that volunteers enjoy an active learning and cultural experience, TIDE limits the number of international volunteers accepted.

Please contact TIDE with any questions you may have. To apply, please submit a letter (or email) detailing your interest and how you can contribute to the work of TIDE, as well as a resume and contact information for three references.
