Published by Seleem Chan - On 30 June 2009
The staff of Port Honduras Marine Reserve continues to diligently carryout their roles and responsibilities as enforcement officers within the protected area. Regular daily patrols into the conservation zones have been a major priority. We had the opening of the Lobster Season on June 15th 2009, which spurred an increase in patrols.

The Community Stewards Program participants are now a group of fifteen people. After careful consultations with the donors, three more terrestrial stewards were added; in an effort to create an even number between the marine and terrestrial stewards. For the month of June the stewards participated in a Fire Management Training done by Mr. Mario Muschamp. The training was done at the ranger station in Payne’s Creek National Park. The training was held on June 11th 2009. The stewards got the opportunity to learn the importance of fire and also its detrimental effects it can have on the natural environment.
